Brampton, Ontario — The Punjabi Chamber of Commerce (PCC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Punjabi Trade Promotion Council (PTPC), establishing a formal framework to strengthen trade, investment, and institutional cooperation between Canada and India. The agreement was signed in person in Brampton, Ontario.
The MoU was signed on behalf of the Punjabi Trade Promotion Council by Kanchan Sharma. The signing was graced by the presence of Bal Mukand Sharma, President of the Punjab State Food Commission, who witnessed the agreement.
The partnership creates a structured framework for the two institutions to collaborate on trade and investment promotion, business matchmaking, delegations, market-access support, knowledge exchange, and joint programming for the benefit of their respective members and stakeholders. Rather than a one-time gesture, the MoU is designed around enablement and execution — establishing the working mechanisms, coordination structures, and project pathways needed to turn cooperation into measurable activity.
For the Punjabi Canadian community, the agreement carries particular significance. It formalizes a bridge between Punjabi enterprise in Canada and opportunity in India, honouring the dual belonging of a community with deep roots in both countries and translating that connection into concrete economic pathways flowing in both directions.
"This is more than an agreement — it is a bridge," said Harsimran Grewal, President of the Punjabi Chamber of Commerce. "For so many in our community, home lives in two places at once. This partnership honours both. We are not here to celebrate a signature and move on; we are here to build the infrastructure that lets our members and partners actually do business across borders. To every member and partner who made this possible — this is your achievement, and the work starts now."
Under the framework, the Parties will pursue initial priorities including chamber-to-chamber delegations, a member-to-member business matchmaking and referral mechanism, industry roundtables on mutually identified sectors, and knowledge sessions on market access and internationalization. Specific initiatives will be developed through dedicated project agreements as the partnership advances.
The Punjabi Chamber of Commerce extends its congratulations and thanks to its members, partners, and supporters whose commitment made this milestone possible.
